How is meaning making understood from a psychological perspective? This course offers an introduction into psychology as academic discipline in relation to humanistic studies. Psychology focuses on studying, understanding and explaining  mental processes, such as emotions, decision-making and memory, but also behaviour and social relations. Students will become familiar with psychological theories, such as (self-)narrative, identity, meaning making, meaning in life, mental illness, grief, and prejudice. We will study different types of articles (such as theoretical, review and empirical)  from relevant psychological sub-disciplines, such as narrative & personality psychology, positive psychology, psychopathology, social and cultural psychology. Students will get familiar with psychological explanations of mental life and behaviour and be able to relate these insights to theories on meaning.
